Key Facts at One Glance:
Liquefied natural gas bridges the gap between fossil fuels and renewable energies. In cryogenic LNG plants, custom-made braided metal hoses ensure safety and efficiency. Thanks to their advanced technology, service life and durability, ASSIWELL® vacuum LNG hoses from Angst+Pfister are a decisive factor on the road to a more sustainable energy future.
Liquefied natural gas () LNG has established itself worldwide as an energy source that ensures the transition to cleaner fuels. Compared to coal or oil, LNG emits significantly less carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, sulphur oxides and particulate matter. As a transitional fuel, LNG therefore contributes to the decarbonization of energy systems.
Liquefied natural gas consists mainly of methane. By cooling it down to around minus 162 degrees Celsius (minus 260 degrees Fahrenheit), the volume is reduced by a factor of six hundred. This enables efficient storage and transportation over long distances - especially in regions where there are no pipelines. LNG is extremely versatile: in the transportation sector, for example in shipping or heavy goods traffic, liquefied natural gas helps to meet increasingly strict environmental regulations.
Braided metal hoses are indispensable for operating cryogenic LNG systems safely and efficiently. LNG infrastructures require components that can withstand extreme conditions. These include cryogenic temperatures and high pressure. The metal hoses are typically made of corrosion-resistant alloys such as stainless steel. This means they are specially designed for demanding applications. They remain flexible and durable even at temperatures of minus 162 degrees Celsius. They can compensate for thermal expansions, contractions or mechanical movements without becoming brittle or failing completely. The braided design gives the hoses the necessary strength to withstand considerable pressure fluctuations with ease. This is crucial for LNG pipelines, cryogenic systems or other critical applications.
Metal hoses are extremely durable and function reliably even in harsh operating environments. LNG plants are often surrounded by humid, salty and corrosive conditions. The custom-made metal hoses also absorb vibrations and mechanical loads caused by high flow rates or dynamic movements of the systems. This prevents damage or leaks in the rigid piping components. The hoses are designed to maintain their tightness. Due to the flammability of natural gas and the risks associated with cryogenic temperatures, this property is crucial.
Thanks to their performance, metal hoses are indispensable for critical LNG systems - also with regard to vaporization gas, regasification processes and emergency relief systems. The hoses comply with strict safety standards such as ISO 10380. This underlines their reliability for challenging LNG applications.
Due to advanced engineering technology and individual solutions, ASSIWELL® vacuum LNG hoses from Angst+ Pfister are setting new standards in LNG refueling. With their hydroformed structure, the hoses have a uniform wall thickness, reduced residual stresses and increased durability. They are also certified in accordance with strict safety standards, including PED certification. ASSIWELL® vacuum LNG hoses offer zero permeation and leak-free connections for unsurpassed safety. They optimize refuelling efficiency in a wide range of conditions - as a result of full vacuum capability, excellent chemical resistance and no icing. The properties of metal hoses vary depending on the manufacturing process, shaft design, thermal tolerance, flexibility and assembly technology.
Like sensors, pumps or couplings, they fulfill specific requirements due to their technical design. A team of experts from Angst+Pfister developed ASSIWELL® technologies for various LNG stations during extensive field tests and fault analyses:
ASSIWELL® vacuum LNG hoses have a tested service life that is three times longer than standard products. This minimizes their replacement and reduces operational interruptions.
